Carrick has collected plenty of trophies during his Old Trafford career so far, winning 5 league titles under Sir Alex Ferguson, with three of those coming in the midfielder's first three seasons at the club.
It is that level of success that United should be aiming for according to the former Tottenham man.
"It's all about winning things," Carrick explained. "In some ways, it's winning the league or nothing...I can't get my head around that to say top four is acceptable."
"I know we've had changes and adjusted as players have come in and out and you can't expect to win the league every year, but you've got to set out to do that."
"I was obviously fortunate enough to win the league straight away and, having that run we did in my first three years, gives you that taste of 'right, it's all or nothing now', so maybe I was spoiled in my early years."
Big talk from the United captain ahead of the new season, United fans will be no doubt hoping that United can back up their title talk with their actions on the pitch.
