English publication 'The Sun' reports that Antonio Conte's side are hoping to reinforce their attack with one of the finest forwards in world football and have an added bargaining tool up their sleeve as they look to do so.
The 'Blues' are looking to use Diego Costa as bait as they look to convince 'Los Colchoneros' to part with their star man. The Spanish-Brazilian is a major target for Atletico boss Diego Simeone, with the Argentine hoping to bring the 28-year-old in when Atletico's transfer ban is finally lifted in January.
The aforementioned source claims that Chelsea are hoping that the offer of Costa will help them obtain Griezmann for a lower price than his €100m release clause, whilst the guarantee of a replacement could also help to soften club's 'not for sale' stance.
Chelsea are therefore planning to reopen negotiations with Atletico in the coming weeks over a move for Costa, though it seems unlikely that the Madrid-based side will let Griezmann leave without a fight, particularly given that he only recently extended his contract with the club through to 2022.
