'Gli Azzurri' are on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Gian Piero Ventura following the their World Cup play-off defeat at the hands of Sweden last week.
The Italian FA have gone about drawing up an impressive shortlist of names to take on the role which is thought to feature the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Roberto Mancini, Luciano Spalletti, Max Allegri and Claudio Ranieri. However, Carlo Tavecchio, head of the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC) recently described Conte as 'fire', sparking sueggestions that he is the country's top target.
"We are seeking the best. [Massimiliano] Allegri, [Roberto] Mancini, [Carlo] Ancelotti....these are the names, I say getting warmer. And Conte? Fire," Tavecchhio was quoted as having told 'La Gazzetta dello Sport'.
Conte has previously managed Italy, leaving his position following Euro 2016 in order to take over at Chelsea, where he is under contract until 2019.
Ancelotti is known to have held talks with the Italian FA, though he is thought to be keeping his options open at this moment in time.
