In comments to the Turkish press, the former Real Madrid centre-back claimed that there is no comparison between the Besiktas fans and those of 'Los Blancos', and he accused the latter of not giving the team enough support or hope.
"The fans of Besiktas are very passionate and when we are leaving the field it always surprises me the noise coming from the stands,” he said.
“Maybe the fans of Real Madrid - and you can be mad at me for what I am going to say - people say that the fans of Madrid transmit enthusiasm to the team, but I do not believe it.
"The reality is not that. The atmosphere of Besiktas and Real Madrid is very different. People love this sport, they are always thinking about football, and after the games the noise is heard until dawn," he added, explaining the difference in terms of the love of the sport in both countries.
But this is not the only occasion in which Pepe has launched a tirade at his former employers.
The Portuguese defender claims he didn't feel "any sadness" after leaving the club: "I made it clear that my time at Madrid is over and this team (Besiktas) represents a new stage of my career. I chose to come here so I could be happy in football. Madrid is part of my past."
They are certainly harsh words for a club with which he achieved so much success.
