The Catalans paid Liverpool €22 million to lure Mascherano from the Premier League. After finding opportunities scarce under Ernesto Valverde, the defender will leave Barcelona in January.
An agreement is already in place between the player and Chinese club Hebei Fortune, which will signify a net loss for Barcelona: over half of his original fee upon his arrival at the Camp Nou.
The money will be destined to the signing of Colombian centre-back Yerry Mina. As reported by 'Mundo Deportivo', Mascherano will seal a switch to the Chinese Super League for around €10 million.
His current salary will remain intact at Hebei Fortune. In fact, the Chinese club are willing to offer him an improvement on his €6 million deal.
Mascherano's objective is clear: he wants to enjoy regular first-team football in order to be included in Jorge Sampaoli's final shortlist for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
