Simeone had two requests before the start of the season. Two names that had been on the Atletico coach's list of transfer targets for a while...
Atletico promised that they would would work on bringing in players despite the FIFA sanction and, after an uneasy summer, they delivered on their word.
Vitolo arrived first, although not without controversy. Sevilla claimed that they had already agreed his contract renewal, but there was turn of events: Vitolo decided to head to Atletico.
'Los Rojiblancos' reached an agreement with the player and until he can officially register as an Atletico player, he will play for Las Palmas.
But Simeone was not content with just Vitolo, there was another name which kept Simeone up every night: Diego Costa.
He wanted the striker a year ago, but ended opting for Gameiro. Diego Costa couldn't quite fulfil his dream of returning to Atletico.
Time passed, but Simeone's desire to sign Costa did not. He specifically asked the board to work on bringing him back...and they did.
It cost them sweat and tears. Atleti became impatient. The summer transfer window closed and Diego Costa had not been signed. The side from the Spanish capital then hoped to reach an agreement with Chelsea once the market had closed.
The negotiations were long and arduous, but Atletico can now celebrate the fact that they have fulfilled Simeone's two requests: Vitolo and Diego Costa.
These two players are, at the end of the day, Simeone's signings. Atletico showed their confidence in their head coach by giving him a new deal until 2022.
It appears as if the Atletico board have said: "Simeone, ask and you shall receive."
