The Premier League side are expected by many to make light work of Roma over two legs, a dangerous attitude given Eusebio Di Francesco's side's performances so far in the competition.
The stunning 3-0 win over Barcelona last time out to come back from the dead needs no introducing, but the concerning thing is that as time has passed, it has already been played down as a one-off.
We appear to be forgetting that the 'Wolves' also put a Chelsea side that pushed Barca all the way in the last 16 to the sword in the Group Stage, once again running out 3-0 winners at the Stadio Olimpico.
Interestingly, just weeks after that beating, Chelsea went to Anfield and claimed a deserved point in the Premier League.
Whatsmore, Roma progressed from the Group Stage at the expense of another European heavyweight in the form of Atletico Madrid - Champions League finalists in 2014 and 2016.
The idea that Roma "got lucky" is overlooking the enormous amount of work that Di Francesco went to to engineer the victory, having since admitted that he did not sleep the Satuday before the game as he tore up the 4-3-3 formation he has used all season and opted to go with a 3-4-3 - all based on watching replays of Barca's games against Chelsea.
"I must be a madman," Di Francesco later joked, "because when a coach does something like that he takes a big risk. You would have killed me [if it hadn't worked]."
Such is his attention to detail that a different player would be on the end of the wall depending on where a free-kick was coneded and who was most likely to take it.
And dare I mention it again, they put three goals past a team that days later broke the record for the longest unbeaten run in La Liga history without reply.
The three goals that Roma plundered against the Catalans was the same amount that Ernesto Valverde and co had shipped in the entire competition going into the game.
And despite the odds being stacked wildly against them, Roma believed.
"I was almost moved [to tears] seeing the ground full. The people believed in us. I told my team-mates that if they believed, we should too," said skipper Daniele De Rossi.
That level of belief is a powerful thing and when you combine spirit with the undoubted quality in the Roma squad, there is the recipe for disaster if Liverpool are not fully prepared.
