BARCELONA:
Goalkeeper: Marc-Andre Ter Stegen - 6
Flapped at one cross in the second half but otherwide looked assured and dealt with what he had to do well.
Right-back: Sergi Roberto - 6
Booked for hauling back Hazard and had his hands full with the marauding Marcos Alonso and interchanging Willian and Hazard.
Centre-back: Gerard Pique - 7
A strong performance from the skipper, went close to meeting a free-kick form Messi and made an excellent block to deny Marcos Alonso.
Centre-back: Samuel Umtiti - 8
A real colossus. The Frenchman picked a fight with Olivier Giroud and won, dealing with everything both in the air and on the ground.
Left-back: Jordi Alba - 6
Forced to play more defensive than he would like due to Chelsea's threat on the counter but did nothing wrong.
Midfielder: Sergio Busquets - 7
Barely gave Fabregas a kick before being forced off with a foot injury.
Midfielder: Andres Iniesta - 7
Produced one beautiful back-heel for Suarez and otherwise looked his usual reliable self.
Midfielder: Ivan Rakitic - 7
Neat and tidy, no frills. Exactly what Barca needed in their engine room following the decision to play an extra forward.
Forward: Ousmane Dembele - 8
Put daylight between the teams with a fine finish and worked tirelessly including making one excellent last-ditch challenge on Alonso.
Forward: Lionel Messi - 9
Simply sensational. Two shots, two goals. The Argentine brought up his 100th Champions League goal as well as creating the second for Dembele with the sort of magic we have come to expect from the 30-year-old.
Forward: Luis Suarez - 6
Worked hard and made sure the Chelsea backline knew they had been involved in a game but failed to have a major impact.
Subs: Paulinho (Iniesta 56); Gomes (Busquets 61); Vidal (Dembele 67).
CHELSEA:
Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois - 5
Nutmegged twice for Lionel Messi's goals and almost presented Luis Suarez with a gift early in the second half.
Defender: Cesar Azpilicueta - 6
Left for dead by Messi as he skipped past the Spaniard to slip home his second of the night.
Defender: Andreas Christensen - 6
Not up to the high standards he has set himself so far this season, though he has never come up against aplayer of Messi's quality in his fledgling career.
Defender: Antonio Rudiger - 7
Battled away and provided an aerial threat in both boxes. Rattled the bar late on with a header.
Wing-back: Victor Moses - 6
Got into several good positions in the first half but failed to take advantage and faded after the break.
Midfielder: Cesc Fabregas - 6
Failed to really get involved in the game against Barca's midfield three.
Midfielder: N'Golo Kante - 7
Worked hard and tried to make life difficult for Barca's playmakers.
Wing-back: Marcos Alonso - 8
Heavily involved. Crashed a free-kick against the post late in the first half and could have had a penalty after being felled by Pique.
Forward: Willian - 7
Caused Barca problems on the counter and could been seen growing frustrated by Giroud's lack of movement.
Forward: Eden Hazard - 7
Put in a shift and tried to make an impact but his night was perhaps best summed up when he showed great pace to get in behind Alba down the right in the second half and cross, only for there to be no Chelsea player within 20 yards of the box.
Forward: Olivier Giroud - 6
Put himself about but largely came off second best in his battles with compatriot Umtiti.
Subs: Morata (Giroud 67); Zappacosta (Moses (67).
