The La Liga pacesetters are reportedly growing increasingly concerned that Umtiti may opt for a move to Old Trafford this summer, with the Frenchman featuring high on Jose Mourinho's wishlist as he plans a summer overhaul.
Umtiti's release clause is currently set at €60m, a fee that would not be prohibitive for United, therefore Barca have already started to weigh up alternative options.
The aforementioned source claims that Sevilla's Clement Lenglet is favourite due to his La Liga experience, having shone at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan this season. The Frenchman has made over 40 appearances for the Andalucian side this season, but with his release clause set at just €30m, there is more than a chance he could soon followed the path carved out by Dani Alves and Ivan Rakitic amongst others.
Another option for Barca is youngster Thilo Kehrer. The 21-year-old is one of the Bundesliga's brightest young stars, having made his Schalke debut at 18 and shown his verastility by playing all across the back four and even in midfield. Kehrer is yet to feature for the German national team, but was part of the U21 squad that won the U21 European Championship in 2017.
Finally, RB Leipzig's Daycot Upamecano finishes the shortlist. The French centre-back has been a revelation this season as the Bundesliga's most hated side battles for Europa League glory and a Champions League place. The 19-year-old's release clause is thought to be set at €100m, but Leipzig have shown a willingness to do business before if the price is right.
With Umtiti yet to sign a new deal, and the interest from United lingering, Barca have wasted no time in lining up replacements.
