Despite falling to a 2-1 defeat, no one could argue that Bayern Munich did not put in a decent performance against Real on Wednesday.
In the end, it was sloppy mistakes which cost the Germans, with the Bavarian outfit statistically far superior to their opponents.
Firstly, Bayern created 13 "dangerous openings" to Real's seven. Jupp Heynckes' side also shot more, having nine efforts, five on target and four off, whilst the visitors only mustered six shots, four of which hit the target and two of which did not.
As home sides often do, Bayern also claimed the lion's share of the possession, having 58% of the ball and as a result completed significanlty more passes than their rivals (533 to 344).
There was no lack of effort from Heynckes' men either, as they ran a total of 110.5km to Real's 106.5.
Real's attempts to catch the hosts on the counter were obvious as they were flagged offside six times, as opposed to Bayern's zero. Finally, Bayern - who threatened regularly off set-pieces - claimed more more corners than the Spaniards (ten to three).
At the end of the day, though, there's only one stat that matters.
