Boateng a doubt for the World Cup

It was a bad night for Bayern Munich as they saw two key players, Arjen Robben and Boateng, forced off in the first half with respective injury problems. 

If reports in Germany are correct, the defender is set to miss between four to six weeks of football, ruling him out of the rest of the club season and putting his participation at the World Cup in major doubt.

Boateng was examined by Bayern doctors after the 2-1 loss to Real Madrid on Wednesday night, who concluded that the German had sustained a serious thigh injury.

It means Niklas Sule will continue to take his place in the Bavarian club's starting XI and could even be a wildcard bet to fill Boateng's position in Joachim Low's World Cup squad.
