Whilst Serie A is often criticised for its lack of action compared with other major European leagues, that accusation could not be levelled at either of the sides playing in Florence on Wednesday night as the game between Fiorentina and Lazio saw two red cards and four goals in the opening 45 minutes.
Both sides saw a man sent off, first 'Fiore' goalkeeper Marco Sportiello with just six minutes gone, before Alessandro Murgia joined him in having an early bath as he was given his marching orders just eight minutes later.
With both teams down to 10, so began the goalscoring. Fiorentina playmaker Jordan Veretout was the unlikely source of the first two goals of the game, though the lead was short lived as Luis Alberto and Martin Caceres struck to level the scores before the break and send the fans into the concourses at half-time in shock after 45 minutes of breakneck action.
