Chelsea's search for another striker was well-documented during the mid-way point. Many names were linked with the role - Andy Carroll, Edin Dzeko, Ashley Barnes, Peter Crouch - however, the London club settled on rivals Arsenal's France international Giroud.
The move seemed like a disaster as Michy Batshauyi, who the 'Blues' had let move to Borussia Dortmund, started banging in the goals left, right and centre.
Nonetheless, Giroud has scored three goals in his last three starts, adding to the three assists he already has to his name with the club, as the 31-year-old finally settles into his new employer's style of play.
Not only are the goals beginning to flow but they have been at very important moments too. Giroud's brace against Southampton in the Premier League helped to start the comeback from a two-goal deficit, with Chelsea going on to secure a 3-2 victory.
His other came on Sunday, opening the scoring in the 'Blues' FA Cup semi-final clash against Southampton. The goal arguably broke 'Saints' resistance, with Alvaro Morata netting the second to book Chelsea's place in the final.
It took some time but Giroud is proving his worth to the club now and with just a few games remaining to overcome a five-point deficit to finish in the Champions League qualification places, maybe it will be the decisive factor for Chelsea come the end of the season.
