Manchester United are planning to offer Anthony Martial a new contract according to 'ESPN'. The 22-year-old has fifteen months remaining under his current contract but United are reportedly eager to extend it.
The initial contract was signed in 2015 when Martial transferred from AS Monaco to United. There is uncertainty whether the club will keep the Frenchman on a new long-term deal or if they will simply extend his current contract by another year.
Preliminary discussions were held in December, although no terms were agreed, and talks are likely to reopen imminently with United confident of reaching a deal.
Although the young forward struggled to assert himself in Mourinho's first season, the manager is reportedly keen to hold onto him. Martial has since scored 36 goals in 129 appearances and benefited from more time on the pitch this season.
When Alexis Sanchez joined United in January, Arsenal registered an interest in the availability of Martial but United were keen to hold on to the forward.
According to 'ESPN', the young player wants assurances regarding his longevity at the club amid reports that he feels settled in Manchester with his partner.
Martial was absent due to injury from the Crystal Palace victory on Monday evening but could potentially be in the starting frontline against Liverpool on Saturday, providing he is signed off by medical staff.
