Albacete vice president Victor Varela said that the midfielder was in a stable condition after undergoing surgery for several fractures following a fall on Saturday.
Another Albacete club official came forward to update supporters that Pelayo faces a ''very slow'' recovery after falling from the third floor of the team's hotel in Huesca.
The 27-year-old is sedated and remains in the intensive care unit of the University Clinical Hospital of Zaragoza.
Varela told 'Europa Press' that: '''The recovery process will be gradual, very slow. The family is confident that he is receiving the best care possible and that everything will improve little by little. Yesterday, the important thing was to make sure that the player stayed with us. Now we have to wait to see how everything progresses. We must remain cautious, we don't know how long it's going to take. It was a touch-and-go situation, but things have progressed favorably.''
Pelayo fell onto an interior courtyard area by a stairwell, reportedly whilst leaning on a third-floor railing and using his phone. The Albacete match against Huesca was postponed.
