Robertson spoke in an interview with the 'Daily Mail' about his conversation with Klopp regarding his future at the club. The defender joined Liverpool in an £8.5million move from Hull last year, but had had very little game-time. He had played in only three of Liverpool's first 15 games.
Robertson said that Klopp gave him valuable but realistic advice, he said of the Liverpool boss that ''he opened the door with open arms and explained what I needed to improve. He also said I needed time.''
Since that meeting, Robertson has excelled on the pitch, emerging from the shadows to become the squad's first choice left-back. Not only is the Scot a talented player, but he is also a firm favourite among the fans, alongside top-scorer Mo Salah.
Robertson has an admirable work ethic, and it is his drive and willingness that impressed the Liverpool coach. The defender also has very practical approach to critics. When Gary Neville called out a group of players, including Robertson, for not being at the right level for games against Barcelona and Real Madrid, the young player said ''maybe he hadn't seen me play enough, maybe he just thought it's a signing from Hull. But these are the people I want to try to prove wrong.''
"You want to make your fans and your family proud. But it's the people who doubt you who motivate you more.''
