When Jurgen Klopp's side decided to spend upwards of £38m on the 25-year-old last summer, many onlookers were shocked by the fee being paid for someone considered to be a "Chelsea reject".
However, as the season has gone on, Salah has proven himself to be from the Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku school of Chelsea rejects, rather than the Winston Bogarde and Mateja Kezman category.
The Egyptian has featured in 41 games for the reds this season, scoring 36 goals and laying on 12 assists.
Of that return, 28 of the goals and 10 of the assists have come in just 30 Premier League appearances, leaving him way out in front in the race for the Golden Boot, with his closest rival Harry Kane trailing him by four goals and currently sidelined by an ankle injury.
Incredibly, the longest Salah has gone without scoring in the Prermier League this season is two games and that was back in October, whilst his recent form has yielded 13 goals and four assists in his last 10 league outings.
It is easy to overlook just how impressive those stats are. To phrase it differently, Salah has scored more goals than four Premier League clubs this season (Burnley, Swansea, Huddersfield, West Brom), the same amount as another (Brighton) and trails a further two (Southampton and Stoke) by a single goal.
Whatsmore, Salah is just a goal away from equalling the record for the most goals scored by an African player in a single Premier League season, an honour currently held by Didier Drogba after he scored 29 during 2009/10.
His stats stand up with the creme de la creme of Europe as well, with the likes of Lionel Messi (25), Edinson Cavani (24) and Ciro Immobile (24) all trailing in Salah's wake (28) in the European Golden Shoe standings.
Whilst his goalscoring isn't anything new, it has reached a new level this season with the 25-year-old having scored more goals in all competitions this season (36) than during his two seasons with former club Roma (34).
Direct, pacy and with an eye for goal, Salah has proven to be exactly the player that most fans dream of seeing their team sign and should he continue his red-hot form a place in the pantheon of Liverpool greats will surely only be a matter of time.
