The incredible stat that puts Real Madrid on the verge of the Champions League final

Historically, Real Madrid have progressed to the next round in 31 of the 32 knockout games where they have won away from home in the first leg.

The most recent example came in the last round as Real's 3-0 victory over Juventus in Turin was enough to see them through to the semis, despite losing 1-3 at the Bernabeu.

Now, having won 1-2 at the Allianz Arena, Zinedine Zidane's side can dream of competing for their third consecutive Champions League title in Kiev.

The only blot on Real Madrid's copybook with regard to this statistic came all the way back in 1994/95, when Real Madrid beat Danish isde Odense 3-2 away from home, only to crash to a 2-0 defeat at the Bernabeu to crash out of the UEFA Cup.

It seems clear that that episode was a freak one-off, with lady luck tending to shine on Real Madrid in Europa, even moreso when they win the first leg.
