Mohammed Salah is having an incredible first season at Liverpool, he is currently the top Premier League scorer with 28 goals to his name. Against Watford last weekend, he scored no less than four resulting in him apologising to goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis.
After struggling to impress at Chelsea, Liverpool snapped up the forward following his spell at Roma where he scored 29 goals in 65 appearances.
Speaking to 'SkySports', former Liverpool defender Thompson said: ''It has been the best ever debut season for an attacker and it is just astronomical what he is doing. It must be a dream for him and I imagine he will barely be able to understand what has happened. He's come from Italy to a league which is supposed to be tougher and more physical and he's finding it a pushover.''
He added that the 'Reds' must be thanking their lucky stars, given that Salah's performance '' has just been everything Liverpool could have hoped for." Thompson was particularly impressed that the Egyptian forward has achieved so much in only his first season.
Despite his success, Thompson warned that Salah may not be able to hold his performance at this level, given that opposing defenders will be clambering to address their weaknesses. He said ''we've lauded it on Salah but greatness is something that comes over the seasons and it will maybe be harder next season as defenders get wiser to him.'' He added that it remains to be seen whether ''second-season syndrome'' will kick in for the otherwise impeccable forward.
