Despite fierce rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland, Diame has offered his help to Van Aanholt as he also suffers from a heart problem.
Diame was released by RC Lens as a teenager because of the condition and when playing for Wigan, the Senegal international also had to a have a defribrillator within 50 yards of the pitch.
While Van Aanholt can continue playing football, his condition will be closely monitored.
"I will call Patrick and give him any advice he may need," says Diame
"I have been through that. It’s something you have to be very careful about. As a football player it is not easy (to come to terms with) because it’s what we have been doing all of our life.
"But I feel good. It has now been eight seasons that I have been playing football here in England and there is no problem. It is more a case of monitoring than anything else".
