With his latest injury looking to keep him out of action until April, Luiz is having the worst year of his career. He went from being a leading figure in Chelsea's Premier League triumph, to simply vanishing from the pitch.
It seems Chelsea's heavy 3-0 loss to Roma was the last straw for Conte, who waved his wand and made the centre-back disappear.
Pressured by the whirlwind of criticism that came flying at him, the Italian's desperate tactical shift saw Luis axed from the side.
When asked if there had been a dressing room spat between him and the Brazilian, Conte said: "No, no. Tactical decision. There is [Andreas] Christensen in really good form and also we have [Ethan] Ampadu who is a good young player. The club like to play with the young player."
Since the thrashing at the hands of Roma, Luiz has played just four games with Chelsea. Crippled by knee and ankle injuries, the Brazilian's World Cup hopes are also in jeopardy.
It's shaping up to be a season to forget for David Luiz.
